Endangered species in canada Essay Example For Students

Jeopardized species in canada Essay Jeopardized species in canada Essay There are a large number of living animals, and a great many various types of creatures and plants share our planet (pg 46, Savage). Every Kind, or species, is extraordinary and remarkable. Be that as it may, a portion of these animal varieties are at risk for vanishing perpetually, similarly as the traveler pigeon did. At the point when the last individual from an animal categories vanishes, that species is supposed to be terminated. Never again will there be another animal of that type on the planet forever. In the accompanying paper it will be demonstrated that Canadian Natural life is getting imperiled because of the activities of man. Our Country was once loaded up with untamed life, and previously, individuals pursued without agonizing over what's to come. It appeared just as there was an boundless measure of untamed life to be found. Be that as it may, overhunting has changed this what's more, caused the eradication of numerous species. Canadian individuals of the past idea that on the off chance that you shielded creatures from chasing, that would be sufficient. Today we currently realize that we should likewise ensure there living spaces. This is the place they discover food, water, cover, and a spot to have their young. Regardless of whether they are not pursued, creatures will cease to exist if these necessities can't be met. In this century, loss of natural surroundings has been one of the primary caused of eradication (pg 8, Silverstein). Individuals share the nation and the planet with the various animals that live here. As human populace develops, individuals spread out into zones that used to be wild, and they rival creatures for living space. Mort times than not the creatures lose in this fight. Individuals chop down woodlands for amble, clear fields for ranches, and fill marshes to assemble towns, interstates, and manufacturing plants. Land can likewise be cleared for such things as mineral extraction. Wild creatures get fenced out from regions that were at one time their homes. Bigger creatures are influenced the most exceedingly awful since they need huge open spaces, and when these zones contract it is a lot increasingly hard to track down food, and live without the dread of man. At the point when a little part of land is cleared for a home, very little is influenced. At the point when an entire city is worked in what was previously a wild territory, a whole species of creature might be imperiled. Individuals frequently consider wild to be as a disturbance what's more, drive them away into the remaining wildland. Be that as it may, as the Canadas wildland vanishes, there will be less places for the untamed life to go. Indeed, even living spaces that are left flawless and not upset by human mediation, may infact be perilous for natural life in light of contamination. Oil spills contaminate the seas and harm or execute water well evolved creatures and fowls. When ranchers splash their harvests with pesticides to shield creepy crawlies from eating their crops, numerous creatures are hurt also. Businesses convey synthetic substances into the air, water, and land, with no worry about what it might be doing to the earth. Landfills release poisonous synthetic substances into neighboring lakes and streams, additionally influencing winged animals and fish. The trash that is dumped straight into the sea harms natural life harshly. Additionally, creatures may botch plastics and styrofoam for food or become choked by plastic six-pack holders. Not all creatures conditions are harmed coincidentally. Some farmer, for instance, have put out toxic substance for coyotes and wolves in light of the fact that these creatures in some cases slaughter there dairy cattle or sheep. Individuals and ventures must be increasingly mindful of what they are doing to nature and how they influence the untamed life as a rule. Up to this point, the vast majority accepted that the earth and everything on it had a place with people and that we could do whatever we wa nted with any of the animals that common our planet. Human exercises have driven numerous species to the skirt of annihilation, yet there have been some reassuring instances of how society can spare jeopardized creatures. One of these is the I Have a Dream and The Gettysburg Address EssayActivist gatherings and concerned residents have ended numerous developmentprojects around the country to protect untamed life habitats. But regularly thebitterness is simply expanded on the two sides of the political fight, and thevictory for natural life is just transitory. Practical and serviceable solutionsusually include a few trade offs on the two sides. At the point when individuals advantage byallowing a compromised or imperiled creature to thrive, the two sides win alonger-enduring triumph. Bargains like this assistance make re-introductionprograms effective. Researchers rush to advise us that imperiled creatures might be avaluable asset later on. At the point when untamed life species are compromised orwiped out, the entire world loses. Individuals in Canada and numerous other countriesare concerned about their own jeopardized creatures as well as aboutthose in creating nations in Africa, Asia and South America. Numerous species that share our reality face terrifying dangers that mayultimately lead to their annihilation. Be that as it may, as we have seen, the image isnot all somber. Today there are more open doors than any other time in recent memory forcaring individuals to help in the battle to spare imperiled natural life. With manyanimals being brought once more from the verge and new improved recoveryprograms, the creatures have a vastly improved taken shots at endurance than they wouldhave 10 years back. Mass Spectrospcopy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Mass Spectrospcopy - Essay Example Subsequently, the proportion of mass to charge abridged as m/e turns into the comparability of the atomic load of the segment. In this strategy, the investigation of the information created includes the re-amassing of the segments and afterward moving in reverse to locate the first example particle (Klein 673). The key rules of mass spectroscopy go back to as ahead of schedule as the 1890s when J.J Thomson had the option to determine the mass to charge proportion of the electron. Furthermore, Wien who delineated that the attractive diversion of anode (contrarily charged terminal) beams were decidedly charged is an establishing figure in mass spectroscopy. These men were regarded with Nobel Prizes for their trials in this strategy. In later years, most likely in 1912, J.J. Thomson again was in the spotlight yet with another examination on Neon particle. In his examination, he oppressed the Neon-20 particle to mass spectrometry and found a variation iota, Neon-22. This proposed neon in truth was an isotopic component. The most punctual type of a mass spectrometry machine was worked in 1918 by A.J. Dempster. It was until the mid 1960s that the strategy for mass spectrometry came into legitimate and regular use in light of the fact that the machines were dependable and reasonable (Pavia 443). With the progression in ionization methods of high atomic weight substances somewhere in the range of 1980s and 1990s, this expository strategy has developed monstrously. Presentation of moderate instruments that give high goals has empowered analysts in all fields to direct top to bottom investigation of different atoms running from oligonucleotides, and other organic mixes. Mass spectrometry navigates all fields and has been of noteworthy incentive in sedate turn of events, and medication disclosure. Inside the wellbeing division, this procedure has been indispensable in the testing of blood and pee tests for discovery of mixes named as markers in explicit conditions. Natura lly, this strategy has been depended on for checking water and air quality just as testing of vitality holds (Pavia 449). The procedural breakdown of mass spectroscopy starts when an extremely low grouping of test atom is permitted to go through an ionization chamber. The chamber is generally kept up at exceptionally significant levels of vacuum. Inside this chamber, the example substance is exposed to a high vitality electron pillar that basically creates contrarily charged particles. Because of this assault, the constituent particles in the example substance section. The emphatically charged particles that are delivered are the given to an examining tube. The way which these cations stream inside the cylinder is bended as consequence of an attractive field. Decidedly charged particles, cations which have the least paces of movement inferring a low mass, are avoided most by the solid attractive field. These particles in this way slam into the dividers of the analyzer. Then again, h igh sub-atomic weight parts which will in general have high energy are not diverted by the attractive powers and as such don't experience impact. Of significance are the particles which have legitimate mass to charge extent (Klein 687). Outstandingly, these particles move through the way of the analyzer, leave the way through an outlet and run into the gatherer. This crash with the gatherer delivers an electric flow which is ventured up

Pygmalion Example Of Feminist Criticism In Literature - Free Essay Example

George Bernard Shaw makes Pygmalion an excellent example of feminist criticism in a piece of literature. Throughout the play, we see male dominance over the females. He depicted how being a lady during the Victorian era changed how you were treated, and women were to act a certain waythe stereotypical lady-like way. In the play, men were dominant over Eliza. Thus, changing her and her way of living making her dependent on them. Although most readers see George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion as a critique of 18th-century class structure, rereading the play with a feminist lens allows readers to see that it is also about the perverse expectations and the conflicting and oppressive views about the role of women.   In Act V, Eliza voices Higgins hurt her because he wouldn’t care for her after all she does for him. Higgins says that he â€Å"[thinks] a woman fetching a mans slippers is a disgusting sightNo use slaving for [him] and then saying [she wants] to be cared for: who cares for a slave?†(127) Offended, he asks how dare she carry slippers after he made a duchess out of her. In Higgins head, A girl that collects someone elses slippers, or â€Å"slaves† away for another isn’t regarded as a respectable girl. He believed that a girl worthy of his respect is quite simply: a duchess. Which is interesting considering, the lifestyle of a duchess. They are provided no quality education or taught to work and provide for themselves. Girls were expected to wear the most up to date fashion. They must talk correctly, walk correctly, and sip their tea correctly. All this hard work- for a man. And if she refuses, she will be denied acceptance from high society members. Hig gins is not a stranger to a contradiction. He is disgusted by Liza fetching his slippers and yet molds her to fit into a high society where women marry off then fetch her husbands slippers- the exact same thing. To Higgins, that is the life a respectable girl lives.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Shaw’s play was drawn from the myth of Pygmalion. These two narratives show how unrealistic and even unnatural the expectations that society often has for women are. Pygmalions perfect woman can only be attained with an artificial construct. Similarly, the ideal noble lady of British society is only a role to play. Pygmalion shows how oppressive these unrealistic ideals of femininity can be: to attain these ideals, Eliza must be coached, disciplined, and taught. She must pretend to be someone other than who she is-like Clara. According to Clara, in the sequel, she had â€Å"to muster all instincts that make her human to fit into the society she was born in†(146).   Towards the end, Eliza showed the ability to be independent. She is capable of finding some success on her own. The play ends with the roles reversed and the men needing Eliza. But ultimately, Eliza cannot escape the constraints of the oppressive Victorian society. She tells Higgins that she desires independence, but we never see her actually obtain her independence in the play. At the end of the play, Eliza must choose between living with Higgins, living with her father, or marrying Freddy. In all cases, her future will continue to remain under control of a man. Eliza is greatly transformed over the course of the play, but it would take even greater transformations of society itself for women to have real independence.

After that, methodologies of predictions based on past volatilities and GARCH class conditional volatility models are presented. Finally, I will talk about how to evaluate the forecasting performances in according to select the best models. Now, let me introduce the data analyzed in my study. 3.1 Data description 3.1.1 The Hang Seng Index (HSI) Global investors treat the Hang Seng Index (HSI) as an indicator of the performance of the stock market in Hong Kong. The HSI was publicly launched on 24 November 1969 and is one of the earliest stock market indexes in Hong Kong. It is now maintained by Hang Seng Indexes Company Limited, which is a subsidiary of Hang Seng Bank, one of the constituent companies. The HSI is a freefloat-adjusted market capitalization weighted stock market index. : The current price at Day t : The closing price at Day t-1 IS : The number of issued shares FAF : Freefloat-adjusted Factor, which is between 0 and 1 CF: Cap factor, which is between 0 and 1 It consists of 43 constituent companies which represent around 60% of the total market capitalization of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX). In order to show the price movements of the major sectors of the market clearer, the HSI constituent stocks are grouped into four sub-indexes: Properties, Utilities, Commerce and Industry, and Fina nce. Normally, qualified potential constituents are companies with a primary listing on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX). In recent years, more and more mainland China companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX), they can also be one of the qualified potential constituents if they meet several conditions. The companys total ordinary share capital must be in the form of H shares, the shares of the company incorporated in mainland China that are traded on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. And also, the company needs to complete the process of Share Reform first. As a result, the company has no unlisted share capital. As the market capitalization, the turnover ranking and the financial performances of the companies may change in different periods, the list of constituent stocks is reviewed quarterly. In this paper, the daily closing Hang Seng Index and the weekly Hang Seng Index are used. The data set ranging from 1 July 1997 to 30 June 2008 is retrie ved from Datastream, a U.K. incorporated data service company. The data set is partitioned into the in-sample estimation periods 1997 2007, the out-of-sample forecast periods 2007 2008. This separation provides 2467 and 522 in-sample observations for the daily series and weekly series respectively. For out-of-sample observations, there are 246 for daily series and 52 for weekly series. During this period, there were quite a lot of economic events affecting the stock market in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is one of the victims of 1997 Asian Financial Crisis. After the HSI peaked at 16820, it was attacked by international speculators, leading to a 50% plunge. In 1998, the Hong Kong government intervention on stock market to p urchase component shares supported the market and the HSI rebounded to 18000. The rise in both the interest rate and the crude oil price burst the dot-com bubble in 2000. The HSI dropped to 14000 and then fluctuated between 14000 and 16000. 911 Incident occurred in 2001. The HSI kept falling and the minimum was 8894. The stock market started to recover after Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) was signed on 29 June 2003. In August 2007, mainland China declared the plan to allow part of citizens to invest on Hong Kong market directly. In October, stimulated by the news of AH stock hedging program, the HSI break through 30000. Unfortunately, the HSI was affected by the fallen chain of major stock markets in the world and dropped 2061.23 on 22 January 2008. During this period, the average point of the HSI is 14313.39 and the stand deviation is 4563.68. The lowest point in these eleven years was 6660.42 which occurred on 13 August 1998. 31638.22 was the highest point and occurred on 30 October 2007. Don’t waste time! If the assigned number of the company matches the generated number, that company will be selected and studied in this paper. The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Holding plc (HSBC Hldgs) is the selected constituent company and belongs to the Finance Sub-indexes. HSBC hldgs is one of the most favourite stocks in Hong Kong. In 1865, it was founded in Hong Kong in March and in Shanghai one month later. The banks headquarter was in Hong Kong until 1992. Then it moved to London as a condition of the acquisition of Midland Bank in UK, and also due to the handover of Hong Kongs sovereignty. HSBC hldgs is also listed on the Bermuda, New York, London and Paris Stock Exchanges. It is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index and the largest company listed on the FTSE. The stock is selected randomly like the chosen constituent stock. Oriental Press Group Limited is selected and is incorporated in Hong Kong. The group takes part in the publication of daily newspapers, Oriental Daily News and The Sun, and The Sun Racing Journal. Oriental Daily News was first published in 1969. Today, the paper is at the top in the daily circulation and has a record readership of around 3,100,000. Unlike Oriental Daily News, The Sun targets at a younger and fresher reader groups. The Sun was published since 1999, and can also be found outside Hong Kong. By considering a lot of Hong Kong people living in North America and in order to develop the market of The Sun, there is a North America version in New York and Toronto. The Sun Racing Journal was established in 1991. It is one of the major horse racing magazines in Hong Kong. Like the HSI and HSBC Hldgs, both daily and weekly clos ing prices of Oriental Press Group Limited ranging from 1 July 1997 to 30 June 2008 are retrieved from Datastream. The data set is also divided into the in-sample and the out-of-sample with the same period as the above two series. The number of in-sample observations and out-of-sample observations for both daily and weekly series are also equal to as that of the HSI series and HSBC hldgs series. During this period, the average closing price of Oriental Press Group Limited is 1.499 and the stand deviation is 0.657. The lowest closing price in these eleven years was 0.533 which occurred on 23 June 1998. 3.175 was the highest closing price and occurred on 14 January 2004. 3.1.4 Transformation of Data As this paper is studying the volatility, I focus on the returns of the HSI and the stocks rather than the index and closing prices. Therefore, a transformation of data is needed before modeling. Data are transformed into daily returns by taking the first difference of the natural logarithm of the daily index and closing prices. : The daily return : The current price at Day t : The closing price at Day t-1 Mean equals to 0.00138 and stand deviation is 0.0176. Night Collecting Insects With a Black Light Sheet

Entomologists often collect night-flying insects using a black light and sheet. The black light is suspended in front of a white sheet. Insects attracted to ultraviolet light fly toward the light, and alight on the sheet. Professional night collecting equipment often consists of a durable white sheet attached to a collapsible frame, constructed from aluminum tubes like to the frame of a camping tent. The black light is suspended from a cord running from the top of the sheet to the ground, or is mounted on a tripod on one or both sides of the sheet. For an amateur insect collector, purchasing this equipment can be expensive. You can make your own night collecting equipment to save money. While your homemade collecting equipment might take a little longer to set up, it will work just as well as equipment purchased commercially. You will need: a length of rope, long enough to span the width between two trees in your chosen collecting areaa black lightan old white sheetclothespins (optional)a power source for your light, if its not battery-operated Tie the rope so it spans between two trees, at about eye level. Make sure you tie it securely, so it will hold the weight of your sheet without drooping. Drape the white sheet over the rope, allowing 1-2 feet of the sheet to lie horizontally on the ground. Some insects prefer to land on vertical surfaces, while others like horizontal surfaces. The latter group will collect on the part of your sheet that is lying on the ground. If your sheet is not long enough, you may need to attach the sheet to the rope using clothespins to allow extra length on the ground. Black lights sold by science or entomology supply companies tend to be more rugged and last longer for outdoor use. You may be able to buy a less expensive black light from a discount or party supply store. If you dont have a black light, you can use an incandescent light, a portable fluorescent light, or even a camping lantern, and still get a good result. Suspend your black light in front of the sheet, near the top. You can tie the light from a branch using some extra rope, or run another length of rope between the trees and attach the light to it. If you use a battery-operated light, you will have more flexibility in locating your collecting sheet. A light that uses AC power may require a long extension cord. At dusk, turn your light on. Monitor the sheet periodically, checking for interesting specimens to collect or photograph. You can use forceps or an aspirator to collect moths, beetles, or other insects that land on your sheet without damaging them.

The Beneficial Belief Feminism - 1407 Words

The Beneficial Belief: Feminism. The modern definition of feminism: â€Å"an ideology that, in its most basic form, directly opposes sexism by supporting gender equality and portraying women and men as equal.† (Finsterbusch 59). This definition was the early direction towards treating women like human beings rather than a housebound body, and this is why feminism should not be viewed as a harmful ideology. By exemplifying the importance of the ideology of feminism, by refuting those who claim that women have used feminism to exploit their personal wants and desires, and by presenting women’s first hand encounters of inequality, case studies, sound arguments and documented research one will be persuaded that the ideology of feminism is not†¦show more content†¦(Chafe 70-71). For that reason, these groups for equality made claims, â€Å"That sex and gender should be discounted, and that eradication of the separate sphere need to happen in order to create progre ss in social standards.† (Chafe 71). Whereas, society has strayed like a lost puppy from honoring women like men with points of view with regards like hostile Jack Fletcher, in the Huffington Post, â€Å"In fact, feminism is a threat to the way things have been for centuries, one which affects the demographic he belongs to particularly: the white, straight, middle-class male† because of the social clasps upon becoming a masculine man has been followed since the beginning of time and women the homemakers that deliberately tend to the feminine tasks of life (Global). Even when digging deeper into expert opinion, Alice Rossi, who is educated in Sociology claims, â€Å"Because women have deluded themselves that a doll’s house is large enough to find complete fulfillment within it,† which is a latch for youthful girls towards home making earlier on before thoughts of children are even imagined (Chafe 68). These bearings of growing up revolve around beliefs from childhood that even one’s parents to day are installing like Tony Porter’s parents did. He claims, â€Å"He was taught men are in charge which means women are not;

Trouble and tragedy Essay Example For Students

Trouble and tragedy Essay What does the inspector want to teach the Birlings and Gerald Croft in An Inspector Calls?  J.B. Priestley wrote An Inspector Calls in 1945 although it was set in 1912, two years before the 1st World War when society was still judged in groups of social classes. J.B Priestley intended to show people that all groups of social classes should be just one not the poor and the rich but all united. Although he thought that unless people changed the 1st and 2nd world wars saw only terrible trouble and tragedy lie ahead for society. The play is based on an upper middle class family the Birlings and the turn of events that are about to happen to them. The Birling family are spending a happy evening celebrating the engagement of Sheila Birling to Gerald Croft a marriage that will result in the merging of two successful local businesses. Yet, just when everything seems to be going so well, they receive a surprise visit from an Inspector Goole who is investigating the suicide of a young girl. The inspector goes round the family asking many questions and reveals how each character in turn has contributed to the unhappy circumstances that apparently drove this girl to a violent, horrible death. In the play J.B. Priestley uses the characters and attitudes of the Birling family, especially Mr. Birling, to make the audience feel sympathy for Eva Smith. In the opening lines of the play, Mr Birling is found discussing port with Gerald, immediately giving the audience a sense of the familys financial security When Mr. Birling tells Gerald and Eric that a man should look after his own, and not listen to the cranks who talk about community and all that nonsense, it becomes obvious that he has no interest in the welfare of people like Eva Smith. By making Mr. Birling so big headed and snobbish, JB Priestley renders his character deeply unattractive and encourages the reader to sympathize with his oppressed workforce. When the inspector mysteriously appears in the dining area and asks if he can question Mr. Birling, Mr. Birling is not too quick to say yes as he doesnt enjoy being questioned in his own home because he is having his authority questioned by someone and doesnt feel in control of the situation. Mr. Birling had sacked Eva as a factory worker because she wanted a raise from 22 shillings and 6 pence to 25 shillings and if the workers didnt get it they frightened to go on strike and he did want to give her it back as he did think she was a hard worker but if he let one of them back he would look like a weakling and all of them would go on strike and demand more money. Mr. Birling didnt remember her name at first but he changes his attitude when he sees the photo the inspector shows him and didnt understand what sacking Eva had to do with the fact that she had committed suicide. Sheila is described at the start as a pretty girl in her early twenties who is quiet pleased with life and rather excited but her feelings are changed when the inspector starts questioning her and Gerald. She is already suspicious about Gerald at the start of the play. I know this because in the dining room she says to Gerald Yes, except for last summer, when you never came near me, and I wonder what had happened to you. But as the inspector starts to unfold the story of how Eva/Daisy died. Especially when he starts to ask how Gerald meet Eva/Daisy and how well they got on. Coming up to the end of the play Sheilas appearance has totally changed from the description J. B Priestley give the reader at the beginning. .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4 , .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4 .postImageUrl , .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4 , .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4:hover , .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4:visited , .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4:active { border:0!important; } .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4:active , .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4 .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub149ebc631748e826ea54b51380b61e4:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The themes of love and loss in the poems "My Last Duchess", "Shall I compare thee", "Let me not" and "Porphyria's Lover" EssayShe can not believe that her parents and Gerald are for trying to pretend that nothing much has happened. Reliability and Validity of Qualitative Research

Question: Discuss about the Reliability and Validity of Qualitative Research. Answer: Introduction: The census data in the excel sheet was organized and chosen as per the instructions therein. Since no particular formula or trick was employed in choosing the sample, we call this method of data sampling as random sampling. Sometimes it is referred to as equal chance sampling (John, 2009). Unlike other probability sampling methods, equal chance sampling discourages biasness (Gravetter , 2011) in results hence the outcomes from a simple random sampling method are usually a representative of the whole sample. This is why it has been employed in this data selection. It is always a daunting task to decide which test statistic to apply so as to compare sets of data. It is more difficult to a non-statistician or even mathematician(Golafshani, 2003). However, statistical methods advice that the characteristics of the data to be compared should be able to guide us on which test statistic to use. First, we should ask ourselves whether the data is ordinal, ratio or nominal. Secondly, is the data paired or not paired?(Utts, 2014). The number of samples to be compared also determines the test statistics to be employed (David George , 2006). Considering all the mentioned criteria, the best test statistic that would fit this kind of data was analysis of variance (ANOVA). It is ANOVA since we are dealing with more than two samples. (Peace Parrillo, 2008). The generation of income distribution is all shown in excel document attached in the second sheet. Going by the descriptive analysis using excel, it can be confidently said that majority of the people are in the very poor category. This category compared to the rest has got the largest number of people who are earning between 110 and 914.25. It has 58 people in number. It is then followed by the poor who earn between 914.25 and 1718.5. These are 29 in number. From statistical perspective, it can be concluded that the data is not normally distributed. It is skewed towards one side and not just normally distributed on both ends of the normal curve. The distribution of the income for the families is not normally distributed because there is a large proportion of people earning less and a few people earning more. Normal distribution always has a balanced scenario. In this case the people who earn less and those who earn more should be the least in number then those who earn moderately should be fairly large. When determining the top 10% value, in a set of data, it is first arranged in order for example in ascending order. In percentiles, a given data is assumed to have been divided into 100 equal parts. So, the bottom 10% value represents the 10th percentile while the top 10% value represents the 90th The excel formula that has been employed to determine the percentiles is =PERCENTILE.EXEC (RANGE, K) k represents the fraction of the actual percentile that we need to establish. In our census data the bottom 10% value in WEF is 83.9 and the top 10% is 507.The chance that a family income is less than or equal to 200 is 0.09. References David, S., George , P. (2006). Learning to Conquer a Fear free essay sample

Learning Experience Timothy Bunnell 9/ 13/ 2010 Ronald Foster Abstract Before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, I was completely terrified of flying. My fear of flying was based on sensationalizing media reports of aircraft mishaps, and the devastation they sometimes caused. Once a Marine, I was conditioned by several methods of learning to develop a love of flying. Fear of flying is a well known phobia and is one that many people live and deal with everyday. Media coverage of disastrous aviation mishaps has provided much fuel to continue feeding this type of fear. Even though, statistically, flying is safer than driving as a mode of transportation, flying is still feared. Until Joining the United States Marine Corps in 1995, I was terrified of flying. The first time I ever traveled by air was on my way to basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina. During this flight, I discovered two important things: I loved the feeling of flying, and I was absolutely terrified by being in the air. We will write a custom essay sample on Learning to Conquer a Fear or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page When I enlisted in the Marines, my Job was to be a helicopter mechanic. In the completion of my duties, I learned about the function of the aircraft, and realized that he aircraft is capable of doing amazing things, and that it is a remarkably safe aircraft. I was given the opportunity to begin flying as a crewmember when I received orders to deploy oversees in 1997. I was thrilled and terrified at the same time. I wanted to fly, but I needed to learn to control my fear of flying. Through several methods of conditioning, I was able to not only control my fear of flying; I was able to completely overcome it. Classic Conditioning In learning to overcome my fear, I had to learn to be able to trust the aircraft, and to trust my ability to function while in the air. The thought of trying to do this in an actual flying aircraft did not seem to be the best way to handle this. In an attempt to simulate performing in flight, I was requested to train in the aircraft weapon simulator. The simulator was used by pilots to simulate the aircraft function, motion, noise, and smell while having the safety of never breaking the deck. In addition to just training in the simulator, I was given the opportunity to actually take the controls and fly the simulator. As an avid video-gamer, this was a huge reward for me, as this was a life-sized, full motion simulator. The unconditioned stimulus in this learning xperience was the sensation and thrill of flight. The unconditioned responses were the rush of excitement, the sense euphoria, and complete lack of fear. In this simulator to build up to training in the actual aircraft. It also gave me a better understanding of how the aircrafts flight mechanics work to fly safely. I was familiarized with the aircraft functionality as a mechanic, and through the simulator, so the fear was reduced to a point that enabled me to get into the aircraft and fly. The conditioned stimulus was flight time, and use of the simulator. The conditioned response was excitement at the prospect of flying. Operant Conditioning In addition to classical conditioning methods, I also learned from operant conditioning. The behavior that was expected was satisfactory performance as a member of the crew. I knew that in order to do this, I needed to control my fear, and work with confidence. There were several consequences that helped to successfully develop this behavior. One of the consequences of successfully performing as a member of the crew was increased flight time. The better I performed, the more I was scheduled to fly. An additional consequence was an increase in salary by receiving flight pay. The more I flew, the more qualified I became. The more qualified I became, the more I was paid. These consequences provided positive reinforcement in the form of more money, and more flight time. This increased flight time caused an increase in the thrill I was able to receive from flying. I wanted to continue doing well, and performing in a highly proficient and effective manner in order to continue being scheduled for flight time, and to continue receiving more money. My reinforcement came at a fixed interval in the form ofa monthly pay check, and at a variable ratio in that my flight time was scheduled fairly regularly hough each month, but without a weekly schedule. Because of the powerful reinforcements used to ensure good performance, there is little chance of extinction of the behavior. I am not likely to lose my confidence in flight. Cognitive-social Learning Cognitive learning involves being able to consider means of solving a problem, and being able to develop a plan to implement those solutions. In order to overcome my fear of flying, I needed to develop a plan based on available assets to practice flying without fear. I knew that pilots train for flight through the use of the flight simulator. I also knew that the simulator was a full motion trainer that used motion and sound to give the pilots a life like training environment from the safety of the ground. When offered flight orders, I requested to be trained in the simulator to help overcome my fear, before I had to try training in an actual aircraft. I felt that this would give me the best chance of using a stepping stone approach to accomplish my goal of becoming a crewman. Part of my fear of flying was due to the chance of mechanic malfunction of the aircraft and the potential for a disastrous or fatal mishap. One of the tools available or use in the simulator is malfunction simulation. This function of the simulator allowed for safe practical application, and realistic effects from various types of malfunctions. In training with other crewmen, I was able to observe their reactions to the malfunctions, and to see their confidence in handling adverse situations. According to Todd Jones (2007), people can be creative in coming up with solutions by use of cognitive mechanisms, or by imitating the behavior they see in others around them. This was true in my case as I developed methods of working through the fear modeled by others. Influence of Media and Prejudice on Learning The Media has long been linked to behavior. Social culture as seen in multi-media settings often influences behavior in those around us. Consider for a moment how often one hears someone use a catch phrase made famous by a popular television show, or how people will begin to imitate the actions or mannerisms of a famous actor or character. Now, consider news media reports of disastrous events and how they change or affect public opinion. It has been suggested by Jason Young (2003) that news media agencies will intentionally sensationalize horrible events. Events uch as plane crashes seem more horrible than they already are when dramatized by the evening news. In todays age of excessive media coverage, that same plane crash is covered by most if not all media agencies thus creating a greater sense of menacing disaster associated with the event. This type of sensationalism can greatly influence the behavior or beliefs of the people who view them. Prejudice plays an a great role on learning as well. Through our social learning, we learn from the behavior of those around us. Learning through observation of others is a cornerstone of this type of learning. It has been well documented that bserving prejudice plays a large role in the development of beliefs in children. Learning to dislike someone because of race, credd, skin color, or sex in not a natural behavior, but one that is learned from others. The same can be applied to prejudice of places or things. Many likes and dislikes are formed through observation of others. Differences in types of Learning The different forms of conditioning mentioned in this paper allow for many layers of learning, and enable for greater learning potential. Classical conditioning allows learning through stimulus and response. If A is presented, then B happens. Through the use of conditioned stimuli and responses, a behavior can be learned and maintained. Operant conditioning occurs through external stimulus. If the behavior is met then it is reinforced through either positive or negative reinforcement. There are consequences for the behavior. If the behavior is met, and continued, then the consequences are favorable. If the behavior is not met, then the consequences are not favorable. Punishment is one of the consequences of not meeting the behavior. Punishments must be used wisely, however, or it may cause further deviation from the required behavior. Cognitive-social conditioning involves using cognitive methods to develop solutions to problems encountered. Those solutions help to shape ones behavior. It also involves learning through observation of the actions of others. All of these types of conditioning involve a cause and effect to develop a behavior. Classic and Operant conditioning use some sort of reward system to continue the behavior, while Cognitive-social conditioning is reinforced by observation or through further use of cognitive methods. Improving this Learning Experience Throughout the process of learning to overcome my fear of flying, I used all of the onditioning methods listed in this paper. There were several ways that this learning experience could have been improved. Part of my fear of flights was a fear of though I have no fear of flying, climbing a ladder can leave me in a cold sweat. I think that learning to control that portion of this fear set may have reduced the time it took to overcome the over all fear of flying. This could have been accomplished using obstacle course and confidence courses that used heights as an obstacle. Through the use of classical conditioning with conditioned stimuli and responses, I think that vercoming my fear of heights may have been accomplished relatively quickly. Another improvement could have been used to improve the learning process would be through operant conditioning. Through the process of rewarding positive results on the obstacles, it would have reinforced success rather than fear. Conclusion The fear of lying almost robbed me of one of the most wonderful experiences that I have lived to enjoy. Through the use of several types of learning and conditioning I was able to overcome a lifetime of fear boosted by media dramatization and by social eaction to aircraft mishaps.

The Great Gatsby Quotes Example

The Great Gatsby Quotes Example The Great Gatsby Quotes – Coursework Example The Great Gatsby Quotes and My Interpretation of Its Meaning â€Å"I hope she’ll be a fool- that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool. â€Å" This dialogue was spoken by Daisy in description of her newborn daughter. The social environment that the child was destined to grow up in did not believe that women were capable of any intelligence and the women grew up believing it. I found it quite sad that Daisy made such a comment. Mostly because it solidified the sadness and boredom she felt in her life. Even sadder was that she never tried to challenge the norm of the time even though she had the potential to. It pained me to read how she had to convince herself that she should be happy with the way her life was going and that she was pretending to be what she was not in order to fit in with the societal norm of the time. â€Å"That’s my Middle West . . . the street lamps and sleigh bells in the frosty dark. . . . I see now that this has been a story of the West, after all- Tom and Gatsby, Daisy and Jordan and I, were all Westerners, and perhaps we possessed some deficiency in common which made us subtly unadaptable to Eastern life. â€Å" The use of places to embody themes, characters, and values in The Great Gatsby is a constant method the author used to depict the lifestyle of the characters. While the east is known for the high social life, the midwest, was known for more traditional moral values. This was the moment in the story when Nick realized that he would never fit in where he was because of the differences in values. A realizatin that eventually sent him back to the midwest. â€Å"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter- tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . . . And then one fine morning- So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the pa st. â€Å" As the final words spoken in the novel, this paragraph brough the novel full circle to the theme of significance of the past to dreams of the future. The green light represents the future and the struggle of people to achieve their goals by changing who they are. The problem, is that the past and present tend to draw them back into their past lives. Which the characters in the story then use to try and help them create a better future for themselves. The green light is their desire to continue to keep their optism and the hope that they will never lose it when looking to their future, even if it becomes harder and harder to achieve their personal goals that would fulfill their great American dream.

The Tree of the Wooden Clogs Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

The Tree of the Wooden Clogs - Essay Example More specifically, this tackles Olmi's and his movie's ability to share history and the impact that it has created to his viewers. More so, this answers the following questions: "The Tree of Wooden Clogs" is a movie which theme is focused with the peasants' experience during the 18th century, when tenant farmers worked for landlords under feudal relationship. Work, then is very important. It serves as the totality of these farmers' lives. Different household scenarios are shown in this movie. Scenarios, which some will still be familiar because they are still happening today, and scenarios which people of today's generation will consider as unthinkable. Typical farming activities such as the growing and harvesting of crops, and breeding and slaughtering of animals are shown in this movie. Moreover, typical housewives' such as washing of used clothes from dusk until dawn, taking care of the children (despite lack of proper food). There are also scenes wherein a child was shown walking several miles just to attend school, and one wife is shown being advised by a priest to give her son to some orphanage because she cannot maintain providing her son with proper food, clothing and education. These are the scenes that could either break the hearts of the viewers or make them feel bored and weary for they will think that it tells nothing but hardship and pains. The Unfolding of History History can be told by sharing all the success and victories of one personality, hero or group of people who have defended a country or who have provided a big impact to the majority of the populace. In this movie, the other part of life is being highlighted. Important personalities or heroes are not that important because what has happened and how that happened is what matters the most. This movie is a good venue or modern people like us to have a clearer picture of how it is to live during the olden times. This give the whole idea that life before is not just pure wars, territorial fighting, political indifferences, nor battles between race and skin color. This movie give us an idea that life itself was a big battle for the many farmers in Italy before. Because of this, this movie is able to reach a larger number of audiences. Though it talks mainly of what is happening in Italy, many other nations would be highly interested to watch this for this movie is disclosing some information which is not normally disclosed and discussed upon. In subtle yet powerful words, scenes and actions, a certain part of Italian history has been told through this move. And the director and writer of this movie should be highly applauded. The authors and writers of this move are not known historians. They are not even part of the history they have been disclosing, but do we need to be that way first before we can share something that we know of about history. Anybody can put history into writing. Anybody has the right to share what has happened

Rosetta Stone Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Rosetta Stone - Research Paper Example One of the key features about the Rosetta stone is its name. The name is currently commonly confused with one of the quickest growing educational blogs. The blog was named after the rock since it serves the same role the Rosetta stone played for archeologists and the world, which was the deciphering of the hieroglyphs. Jean-Franà §ois Champollion was the archeologist who was able to decipher the meaning of the hieroglyphs. Champollion had a good understanding of the Greek language and had expansive knowledge and comprehension of Coptic. With an understanding of Coptic script and Greek, Champollion was able to decipher the hieroglyphs. Another interesting aspect about the Rosetta stone is its naming. The rock, which is believed to be made of granodiorite, is named after the town in which it was discovered. However, the Town was not known as Rosetta but rather is historically and geographically known as Rashid. However, the English translation of Rashid is Rosetta. Conventionally, the importance of the Rosetta stone, other than its contribution to the deciphering the hieroglyphs in 1822 is still not clearly known. However, several propositions of its roles have been from the translation of the hieroglyphs. The rock was uncovered by Napoleon’s soldiers when they were digging foundations in el-Rashid, which is commonly referred to as Rosetta The Rosetta stone is believed to have been issued in 196 BC in Memphis, Egypt. The stone was developed as a decree on behalf of King Ptolemy V. The stone is believed to have been written in three scripts for it to be easily read by priests, government officials and rulers of Egypt. Presumably, each of these groups used a different script in their literature. The current level of knowledge of deciphering argues that the stele was erected to assert the beginning of a new reign; a divine cult (Sandborn & Sandborn 110). The stone is one of the few historical

Spectrophotometry Essay Example for Free

Spectrophotometry Essay Potassium permanganate (KMnO_4) is commonly used as an oxidizing agent and in this experiment, it is used as both the titrant and indicator. A standard of potassium permanganate solution was prepared and computed to be 0. 02235 M and was used to titrate a sulfuric acid solution wherein the sample salt was dissolved. The solution was heated to 90Â °C then titrated until a light pink colored solution was obtained. The experiment focused on determining the percentage of Sodium oxalate (Na2C2O4) in the sample and at the end of the experiment it was found to contain 49. 45%. Experiment 9 focuses on determining the different concentrations of potassium permanganate solutions by finding its absorbance through the use of spectrophotometer. Four known concentrations were prepared; 2. 5 x ? 10? ^(-3) M, 6. 25 x ? 10? ^(-4) M, 1. 25 x ? 10? ^(-4) M, 6. 25 x ? 10? ^(-4) M. The solutions were placed on the spectrophotometer to determine absorbance together with the unknown. Distilled water was placed before each trial to ensure the accuracy of results. Determining the concentration of the unknown sample was done by drawing a graph of the concentration against the absorbance and was found to be Introduction Spectrophotometry is a method to measure how much a chemical substance absorbs light by measuring the intensity of light as a beam of light passes through sample solution. The basic principle is that each compound absorbs or transmits light over a certain range of wavelength. This measurement can also be used to measure the amount of a known chemical substance. Spectrophotometry is one of the most useful methods of quantitative analysis in various fields such as chemistry, physics, biochemistry, material and chemical engineering and clinical applications. A spectrophotometer is an instrument that measures the amount of photons (the intensity of light) absorbed after it passes through sample solution. With the spectrophotometer, the amount of a known chemical substance (concentrations) can also be determined by measuring the intensity of light detected.

Your Attitude Is Showing :: Business Marketing

Your Attitude Is Showing: A Primer of Human Relations I enjoyed reading "Your Attitude Is Showing" a great deal more than I expected to. I normally hate to read because I am not very good at it, and I am usually uninterested in the subject. I found that this book to be quite easy to read. The language that the authors used was very easy to understand. Also, it was divided into many chapters with many sections in each chapter. This made it easy for me to keep my attention on the book. When reading I normally become tired and bored, but I was able to focus well on this book. The content of the book also helped keep me interested. I felt that the authors addressed many important points throughout the book. Though I knew much of the information discussed, I also learned a lot from it. This is why I enjoyed the book the most, because it taught me things that I will use, and that are very important for how successful my life is, professionally and personally. Key Points When reading this book I found there to be many important points that were addressed in each chapter. I found three points in particular to be more valuable to me than the others. The first key point that I found was in chapter 2. â€Å"All organizations are built around people. And when you build healthy relationships with your fellow workers and supervisors, you open doors that would otherwise be closed.† I found this statement to be very interesting. This section went on to explain how knowledge of a particular job is not all that is important to succeed in a career. I had previously not realized this in my life, even though I have had personal experiences that reflect this. I was recently offered a management position at my current job. I thought that it was strange because I had relatively no experience working in retail, and I had only been working with the company for a few months. But after reading this section I realized that, most likely, the reason why they off ered me the job was because of the strong relationships I had developed with my supervisors and co-workers in such a short period of time. From now on I plan on keeping this point in mind whenever I begin a new job. The second key point that I found was discussed in chapters 3 and 4.

Macbeth: Post Traumatic Essay

Throughout the story, Macbeth seems to show symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Post traumatic Stress Disorder is an emotional illness that usually develops as a result of a terribly frightening, life-threatening, or otherwise highly unsafe experience. He starts experiencing terrifying events after he became a murder. Macbeth’s problem of experiencing symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, when first killed the traitor in the beginning of the Act 1, Scene 2. Macbeth does suffer from PTSD and throughout the story, Macbeth show more symptoms of PTSD, dealing with the death of the traitor, Death of Duncan, and Banquo. In the first act, Macbeth is a soldier in the army. In the Act 1, Scene 2, the captain explains to the king, that Macbeth has killed the traitor. â€Å"Which smoked with bloody execution, like valor’s minion carved out his passage till he faced the slave; which nevr shook hands, nor bade farewell to him, till he unseamed him from the nave to the chops† (Act 1 Scene 2: 18-22). The killing of the traitor was the start of Macbeth’s killing spree, also the start of the post traumatic stress disorder. The way Macbeth killed the soldier, was very gruesome. The gory, intense event shocked Macbeth and left a horrible image in his head. Dr. Roxanne Dryden Edwards says â€Å"People who are exposed to war combat have been diagnosed with PTSD†. After that death, Macbeth’s next victim was King Duncan, so Macbeth could become king. Macbeth kills King Duncan, so he could become king. After the death of King Duncan, Macbeth enters the room, where Lady Macbeth is. His hands covered in blood, meaning that he has completed the deed of killing Duncan. â€Å"I have done the deed. Didst thou not hear a noise? † Dr. Roxanne Dryden Edwards, a person who has PTSD, will experience hallucination. † (Act 2, Scene 2). After the death of Duncan, Macbeth is unable to sleep. In the story, Since Macbeth killed Duncan in his sleep; it also means that Macbeth can’t sleep neither. â€Å"Since it cried â€Å"Sleep no more! † to all the house: â€Å"Glamis hath murdered sleep, and therefore Cawdor shall sleep no more: Macbeth shall sleep no more. † (Act 2, Scene 2: 40- 42). The symptom of PTSD is that after a terrifying event, the person will not be able to sleep. Dr. Roxanne Dryden Edwards says PTSD symptoms are chronic physical signs of hyper arousal, including sleep problems, trouble concentrating, irritability, anger, poor concentration. After the death of Duncan, Banquo was next line for death row, for knowing who killed Duncan. During Act 3 Scene 1, Macbeth talks to two murderers about killing Banquo. Banquo knows that Duncan’s murderer was Macbeth. Macbeth hired two murderers to kill Banquo, so Banquo would not tell anyone. † Have you considered of my speeches? Know that it was he in the times past, which held you so under fortune, which you thought had been our innocent self: this I made good to you in our last conference ;†( Act 3, Scene 1) The two murderers agree to kill Banquo, because if they didn’t follow Macbeth’s order, they would be killed themselves. Macbeth is being manipulative the reason why is that Dr. Roxanne Dryden Edwards says â€Å" PTSD causes a person to paranoid and not want to be around anyone. † After the death of Banquo, Macbeth started hallucinating as if he was seeing Banquo’s ghost. â€Å" Avaunt! And quit my sight! Let the earth hide thee! Thy bones are marrowless, thy blood is cold; thou hast no speculation in those eyes, which thou dost glare with. † Hallucinating is a symptom of PSTD, usually recurrent re-experiencing of the trauma, for example, troublesome memories, flashbacks that are usually caused by reminders of the traumatic events, recurring day mares about the trauma. Macbeth does suffer from PTSD and throughout the story; Macbeth shows more symptoms of PTSD, dealing with the death of the traitor, death of Duncan, and Banquo. Macbeth did have PSTD. Proving that all of the events that Macbeth was involved in all of the tragic. For the death of the traitor, that was the spark of Macbeth’s major killing spree. Next was the King Duncan’s death and finally was Banquo’s death. Each of these tragic events was the cause of Macbeth having PTSD. Every one of those deaths, increase the killing and made Macbeth go insane leading to his death. Isn’t better to show your true colors, than be black and white?

Minimum Wage The Cause of Poverty - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 802 Downloads: 6 Date added: 2019/05/07 Category Law Essay Level High school Tags: Minimum Wage Essay Did you like this example? A mother of three travels to work each day but still struggles to provide for her children on a salary of $7.25 an hour. This is because she works for minimum wage. When people think about minimum wage they think about teens working but never do they think about the adults that work on this salary. When people start to think about these parents working on minimum wage they start to think about how the children live. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Minimum Wage The Cause of Poverty" essay for you Create order Most times the children live in poverty and are barely able to afford clothes or food. Saying this, minimum wage should be brought to $15 an hour so that parents can provide for their families.   Raising the minimum wage would help families of five live on a full-time minimum wage and not have to raise their children in poverty. Jason Furman states that Even with a $7.25-an-hour minimum wage, a family of five with a full-time, minimum-wage earner that receives food stamps and the refundable tax credits would fall $1,139 below the poverty line in 2009.( Raising the Minimum Wage Will Reduce Poverty) This shows that even when the price of minimum wage was raised from $5.15 to $7.95 Americans were still struggling to stay above the poverty line. This it is only in 2009 with legislation not indexing the wage for inflation families will fall even lower under the poverty line because inflation will erode the value of minimum wage., says Jason. (Raising the Minimum Wage Will Reduce Poverty). With that being said the wage would have to be raised again to a higher amount for any family to be above the poverty line. Knowing this information having minimum wage raised to $15 an hour with help families in the long run even with inflation.  More Americans work on minimum wage than those who dont and out of those people, most are adult women. According to the U.S. Census Bureaus Current Population Survey, tipped workers on minimum wage are overwhelmingly women, many of whom are supporting families. Overall, women make up sixty-two percent of tipped workers and seventy-two percent of waitresses and waiters one of the largest groups of tipped workers (A High Minimum Wage). As a result, most women are unable to support their families because they work on such a low wage. Overall, the family poverty rate for waitresses and waiters is 14.9 percent almost three times the rate for the workforce as a whole. And the rates are even higher for tipped workers as a whole since their wages are lower than those of waitresses and waiters ( A High Minimum Wage). Showing that most people who work on minimum wage are in poverty. With that said raising the wage would lower the percentage of people working on minimum wage in poverty.  People in America are even homeless and still, have jobs. A 1998 survey of Baltimores homeless found that 17% of those surveyed were employed and approximately 46% had lost their jobs within the previous year (The Homeless). Showing that even when some people have jobs that can not make enough to even buy a house for there family.Inadequate wages put housing out of reach for many workers. Working homeless people report that their incomes are not sufficient to afford a familys basic living needs ( The homeless). Even when people get jobs to try and make a living it is not enough to get a home so they are not homeless.  Ã‚  With this evidence, most would feel it is needed to raise minimum wage yet others still believe the price of minimum wage now is better for families of four and would actually affect them if it was raised because they will get fewer food stamps. Even though this could be true most families now still struggle to support their families even with welfare and food stamps. It is said that the increase would mean an additional $4,200 in annual earnings for a full-time, minimum-wage worker. It also would automatically trigger $1,140 in increases in the familys EITC and refundable Child Tax Credit, enough to roughly offset the decrease in the familys food stamp benefits resulting from the increase in the familys cash income. As a result, the family would be lifted five percent above the poverty line, instead of being 11 percent below the poverty line in 2009, as it would be under current law(Raising the Minimum Wage Will Reduce Poverty). This proves that even though raising the wage would reduce food stamp prices the result is still higher than it is now.  Ã‚  Families and citizens of America struggle every day working on minimum wage trying to provide for themselves and others. People need to make efforts to raise this wage so that the number of people homeless can be lowered. If this is done people will be more productive and put more effort into their work because they are earning more money.
